Be good to yourself.

Sometimes, my clients find themselves in a predicament. “Do I?” or “Don’t I?”; they’ll talk themselves in and out of design elements that they love, but are afraid to commit to. They’ll keep up a search to find something different instead of just leaning in to the options they fell in love with in the first place.

I’ve learned that the most challenging hurdle for some isn’t which fabric or paint color to choose; it is figuring out how they can mentally get themselves to a state of “yes” about having luxurious, or “nice” things. For some clients, this isn’t a predicament at all, but for others, it can be a major friction point when trying to achieve their vision of home.

You deserve to live well in a place that is as calming, restorative, and (yes!) as luxurious as you’d like it to be.

Some guidance:

  • Don’t make it all about “the numbers.” Objectively identify what speaks to you and what you find value in. Speciality pieces are essential in creating the spaces you want to live in. When considering your budget, the overall investment can be balanced in other areas if an emotional connection was made with a more expensive speciality piece.

  • Try to articulate the “what and why” behind your decisions. What drew you in? Why is this resonating with you?

  • Resist the urge to ask for everyone’s opinions, even if you’re having trouble forming your own. “Polling the audience” can sometimes lead to even more confusion and negatively impact your own feelings about the end result.
